Hello, here are some specifications I want to share.
I’m using an i5 6600k at 4.2ghz, paired with an MSI GTX1080 gaming graphics card.
My system runs Windows 10 64bit.
These are my main points: the game GTA V is a good test for CPU performance, and I’m curious if pushing the CPU to around 4.6ghz would help me reach its full potential.
Currently, MSI’s afterburner, GPU-Z, and Windows Task Manager show consistent usage across all four cores during GTA V, with low GPU activity.
I’m wondering if a slight increase to 4.6ghz could unlock more performance from my 1080 graphics card, or if I’ll always be limited by the CPU compared to newer models like the i7 7700k.
Is this kind of CPU bottleneck typical for users with a 6600k?
I’m managing to hit around 60fps on most ultra settings with high graphics in 1080p, but I want to push the limits further and use the full 8GB of memory available.
Occasionally I notice stutters, so I’m also curious if others are seeing better results and if my CPU might need a bit more overclocking.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Based on my tests, it appears the CPU is being pushed by the large number of frames generated. The results matched what you suggested about the GPU handling stress from high frame output. GTA V was run at maximum settings without frame scaling and with dense grass, using only one AA on 4x. At 1080p with VSync on, it ran smoothly between 55-62fps, but experienced screen tearing likely due to my 4K TV display. At 1440p with VSync on, it stayed steady at around 60-100fps, though still showed some tearing. On 3840x2160p, it dropped to about 45fps regardless of VSync. It seems the GPU performs well at 1440p, so I’ll stick to that resolution. Thanks for your assistance.
