Cpu and GPU technology
After reaching the lowest feasible NM and fine-tuning the IPC, we focus on CPU improvements beyond core count. For GPUs, adding an extremely high number of stream processors is an option. Doubling the RTX 3080 stream processors would significantly boost performance.
If we understood it, we would have done it already. Essentially, we're still uncertain about this.
Quantum computing is an emerging field that has been around for several years now. It involves technologies beyond traditional silicon scales. Companies such as D-Wave are working in this area. https://www.dwavesys.com/ EDIT: I didn’t include IBM or other major players. https://www.zdnet.com/article/eight-lead...s-in-2020/
Quantum computing doesn't substitute conventional computing. These machines excel at rapidly exploring many potential answers to mathematical challenges, yet they struggle with the sequential logic traditional systems handle, making them unsuitable as a full replacement.
We aim to achieve the tiniest picometer and then the smallest femtosecond, and so forth.
