When I initially assembled my PC, I chose the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X to get a versatile machine for gaming, video editing, and 3D work within my $2,000 limit. Now I’m questioning whether switching to the 9950X3D would be a better move. From what I learned, X3D tends to focus mainly on gaming performance with extra cache for higher frame rates in games. In contrast, the X series offers a faster clock speed, making it more adaptable for general computing tasks beyond gaming. This seems to hold true for the Ryzen 9 lineup. Since I’m not strictly targeting gaming, should I opt for a X instead of an X3D now, or should I consider swapping before the 30-day return window closes?
Because gaming is something you enjoy doing, I’d go for the X3D any day. Regarding clock speeds; 9950X and 9950X3D share the same base and boost clocks, though it’s unclear if non-X3D models might run faster.
