For thermal management, thermalright products or an NHD-15 G1 level cooler could help—around US$35 or £35, depending on what you're familiar with. It seems pricey for the benefits, especially compared to your 7900xtx Nitro+ which costs about £1000 and offers a solid 35% boost with more VRAM. Your colleague's RTX A5000 is around £2000, while his 7900xtx is roughly 35% faster with similar VRAM. The only advantage of his setup is better energy efficiency, which is a minor factor. Workstation GPUs focus on reliability, yet for lighter tasks a regular gaming GPU works just fine. Even high-performance gaming cards aren’t always stable under heavy use; people often choose them for mining cryptocurrencies. If workstation GPUs were much more dependable, they’d likely be preferred. Power efficiency matters too, because miners still need to pay for electricity.

Regarding the CPU, I’m leaning toward the 7950X or 7950X3D. The real impact of 3D V-Cache in my software isn’t clear yet—I think it could help with performance but I’m still weighing options. They also include verified drivers that certain advanced programs demand for support. You must also consider if the software depends on CUDA; in that scenario AMD becomes unnecessary, unless you're interested in testing ZLUDA. It's mainly valuable for gaming purposes.
