Video Editing project focused on simple tasks. Played basic games such as Minecraft and enjoyed casual gaming with friends. Budget stays around $2000 AUD (about $1300 USD). PC components are a bit pricier in my country. Current setup uses either a 14500 or 14700 GPU, RTX 4070, Z790 motherboard, G.Skill Z790 RAM, 32GB DDR5 5600mhz SSD, 980 Pro 1TB power supply, Corsair RM850X case, a 4000D cooler, and a NH-U12A fan. I prefer not to use AIO coolers and have had negative experiences with them before.
I believe the options you mentioned form a solid overall setup. Switching to the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE would save you about $150 while maintaining similar performance. Absolutely, the prices in Australia can be misleading—many people fall for scams.
Thanks for your assistance. I’ll add the more affordable cooler to my list and might consider the i7. Prices here are really high. Appreciate your support!
If you're moving from an older CPU setup, you might want to explore AMD options. The current challenges with Intel 13th/14th gen models make it hard to recommend them. I’m curious about AMD pricing in your region. For your situation, the 7900 or 7950 series would be ideal—especially the X models for 4K video editing, without the need for a 3D V-Cache. The newer 9900 or 9950 could work too, but they have some quirks like core parking and scheduling. Since they’re brand new, the older generation is significantly more affordable. Check local AMD hardware pricing to see if it fits your budget. AMD CPUs are solid for professional tasks and don’t face the same problems as Radeon GPUs. For a motherboard, a good B-650 model would meet your requirements well.
If Intel is the only option, I’d choose the i5-14500 since it’s thought to remain stable compared to other K CPUs and runs on the 12th generation architecture. Depending on your location, a 12700K/KF or 12600K/KF might offer better value thanks to larger discounts. For AMD enthusiasts, the 7700 or 7900 could be a solid pick. The 14700K works well for varied tasks if you’re confident in its performance, though opinions are divided. Keep in mind that encoding/decoding methods like AV1 can leverage AVX512, making 9000 series CPUs significantly quicker for those tasks.
Check if the i7 13700K is more affordable. Adjust the voltages and core clock speed accordingly.
