I bought an 8GB DDR4 RAM for my laptop just to confirm its speed—specifically looking for X8 or X16. The serial number I found is CT8G4SFRA32A. I also checked the RAM physically; there were four chips visible on the front, but nothing on the back. The AIDA64 and CPU screenshots are attached.

They seem to be comparing 8Gb and 16Gb options. In the scenario where 16Gb modules are used, four 16Gb chips equal 8Gb total. According to my understanding, the chip size itself doesn't affect performance significantly.

I checked whether it was an x8 or x16, and confirmed x8 is about 20% faster than x16 according to Linux.

It's a single rank, consisting of 4 chips each with 16 bits = a 64-bit memory stick. This setup would offer less performance than using 8 chips at 8 bits each, either single or dual rank. The benefit of such a stick is reduced power usage... in practice you might gain a few extra minutes from your laptop battery.

In response to poor results, it might be wiser to lower the voltage instead. This approach is one-sided, but since it’s so bad, using fewer chips could help. I’ve noticed older models sometimes had multiple chips on one side—like 8 chips in a single 16GB configuration, not the usual 8 chips split across two rows. DDR4 was phased out, and such setups are rare these days. Overall, it’s a weak performance with only four chips instead of eight.

I thought about sending it back for an 8-chip version, but I’m not sure. I want to keep performance strong, and I’d appreciate knowing the exact performance loss percentage.
