Perform a complete reinstall. From Windows 8.1 you can upgrade directly as I interpreted.

The system starts with Windows 10, yet you prefer OpenSUSE or Ubuntu.

When setting up Windows 10, handle any private data with care since the tech preview includes a keylogger for troubleshooting. This feature will be eliminated in the final release version.

You'd need to be very careful swapping operating systems... it's usually best to perform a fresh installation, even when updating services.

Service packs were applied without issues, consistently. Performance remained stable at 8 to 8.1. Installation was smooth despite using Windows 8 recently.

Bad choice. Windows 7 is outdated compared to 8.1. Though opinions don’t matter, Windows 8.1 is clearly superior. If you already own 7, there’s no reason to upgrade; purchasing it alongside 8.1 makes sense, but buying 7 today is foolish. Only fools would make that decision.
