I’m considering switching to Windows 10 because my current system is Windows 8.1, and I think Windows 7 remains preferable. Will Windows 10 outperform Windows 7?

It's really clear that things have improved a lot. Concerns like DX12 not being available on Windows 7 are a big deal for gaming, and the fact that it's free makes sense.

At first I doubted it, but eventually it will be true.

Windows 10 remains in beta testing, which means it may have some issues, but it's free. If you have funds, Windows 7 is a better choice—it's simpler and widely recognized. I don’t really like Windows 8 either.

Keep using Windows 8.1 if you decide to install Windows 10—it won’t be available yet.

Wait for the official updates, don't rush through conversations with drivers for long periods.

Windows 10 is available at no cost for users with licenses of versions 7 and 8, so I’ll stick with 8.1 until the official launch. I haven’t upgraded from 7 to 8, but I’ll switch to 10 once it moves out of beta.

Windows 8.1 offers improved speed compared to Windows 7 for most users; however, if you prefer the older interface, consider reverting to Start, Start 8, Classic Shell, or other methods to restore the Windows 7 experience.
