I own an extremely outdated laptop that runs very slowly. For example, it takes about 30 seconds to open Display Settings on Windows 10, and it has a Pentium N3540 processor. Running CrystalDiskInfo shows a warning about Reallocated Sector Count, with values of 100, 100, and 5. It also experiences BSODs occasionally and unpredictably. Could this indicate a problem with the hard drive? Additionally, the CPU idle temperatures are at 55°C—should I consider reapplying thermal paste?

CPU performance is slow
Hard drive issues are suspected
Possible RAM shortage may be present
Thermal paste appears unrelated
No effective solutions exist to improve speed

I've used Celeron netbooks that perform ten times better than this machine...the performance is really poor. I'm considering increasing the RAM to 8GB, switching the HDD for an SSD, and reapplying thermal paste. The total expense would be about $35 USD.

The paste is not the issue.
