I've experimented a bit with Archeage—won’t be a huge hit, but it’s still enjoyable to play around with. I’m also curious about Shroud of the Avatar, though it demands a significant investment for any useful content when it launches.

I hope it comes. I think eventually it will. One of the biggest challenges for MMOs today is that most combat feels monotonous—just clicking buttons and numbers. There are some promising signs in MMO battles with games like TERA, Vindictus, Wildstar, and Guild Wars 2. Yet each has its own issues. TERA mimics World of Warcraft but its questing system is tedious. Vindictus offers great combat but is restricted to direct peer-to-peer play and single instances. Wildstar and Guild Wars 2 provide action-based fights, though players should focus on positioning characters carefully during attacks. Sidestepping feels frustrating and breaks the flow of a strike. Perhaps a major leap in VR technology is needed for MMO games to truly flourish again.

ArcheAge offers an enjoyable sandbox MMORPG experience, though accessing the alpha requires spending more than $150.
