I've just finished a new build and think the processor might be limiting performance. Share your thoughts to confirm or challenge this idea. Thanks for your feedback!

The processor and memory also play a role. Your brother's setup has an i5 7400 and GTX 970, which are quite similar to yours, but it struggles with certain games. He also uses single-channel RAM, and while a RAM upgrade helped some titles, the i5 still falls short in others. Which games do you think are limiting your performance?

I have a slower processor, but it still manages to keep up with my 3GB 1060. That card isn't too weak for me.

Consider switching to an Intel i5-8400. It offers solid performance and fits your budget well. If you need more power, look into options like the i5-8400X or similar mid-range chips.

I think the clock speed is too slow. I enjoy running GameCube games and some Wii titles in Dolphin since my memory cards often get corrupted on my real GameCube. I purchased the processor because I noticed the 3.3 GHz turbo clock instead of the 2.7 GHz base clock.

I suggest upgrading to a Ryzen processor, as new ones are expected soon. This is likely what my brother will receive too. Remember to cite sources so others can understand your points. You might notice occasional frame drops or poor frame rates, similar to what my brother experienced.

I've also seen that with some games such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Doom, I struggle to reach around 40 frames per second when using medium settings.
