Could the original Darkfall return soon?
Darkfall Online was my top pick among MMORPGs ever (my very first one), but it shut down in 2011 to make way for Darkfall Unholy Wars. The new version changed things a lot—some improved, others hurt the original vibe. Now Aventurine is thinking about reviving it due to strong player interest, reminiscent of classic Runescape. What it offered was an open-world PvP MMORPG with full loot, PvP mechanics, and FPS-style gameplay. The world was completely open, with no invisible barriers except at map edges. There were no instances—only loads during dungeon entry or when dying. It included naval battles, large-scale group fights, territory control, city management, and advanced crafting. Every gear piece and weapon could be made, plus ships and warhulks for siege tactics. The economy was strong, there were no classes or skill caps, and six races each had unique stats, reach, and racial abilities. Graphics were decent—even on older hardware, 60 FPS was possible, which helped keep the action lively during intense sieges with up to 400 players. Some of the most memorable moments came from epic battles against dragons and other monsters.
