I intend to purchase an i7 6700, an rtx 2080 and a 650 watt power supply in the future. I'm wondering if the i7 6700 might limit the performance of the rtx 2080. I was considering upgrading to a better CPU, but when I checked compatible motherboards, there was an issue with pairing certain CPUs. So I chose this one just because it's still a decent CPU.

It could be about 5% slower compared to a modern i7, but it should still work. The difference will be minimal if you're playing at higher resolutions like 1080p or above, because the processor won't have to work as hard.

Your configuration is solid, even if you decide to upgrade later to 1440p. A 650w power supply is sufficient. You won't have to overclock; your CPU will automatically reach boost maximum in games without any adjustments. My current CPU runs at 3.6ghz, and after upgrading the GPU to RTX 2080, it consistently hits 4ghz across all titles. Earlier models never achieved that level.

I purchased my son a GTX 1080 ti last year, and he uses an i7 6700k. Currently, he plays Fortnite on a 32" 1440 144hz monitor, and the game runs smoothly. If he required more CPU power, I would have mentioned it because I offered him my i7 8700k plus a new motherboard if needed.
