Could lowering the cache ratio improve stability?
I've been trying to keep my i5 4670k running smoothly at 4.5 ghz, and I finally achieved it by lowering the cache ratio multiplier to 35. To push past the 4.2ghz ceiling, I had to cut it down from 41 to 35. Should I keep at 4.2ghz or accept a higher thermal load with a lower cache ratio to preserve the stable 4.5ghz performance? In short, does a higher core clock matter more than the cache ratio for results?
I also want to note that running at 4.2ghz would require a lower voltage of 1.2v, which I think is feasible, but reaching 4.5ghz demanded a significant jump to 1.3v. At that voltage, temperatures climb into the upper 70s, while at 1.2v they stay in the low 60s to low 50s. My cooling solution is the Cryorig Ultimate cooler.
Thanks in advance.
~20 degrees cooler, 15% quicker cache, and just 6.7% less overclock. I’d stop at 4.2 if it were me.
