Is it beneficial to overclock an FX-6300? Will it provide significant performance gains or risk voiding your warranty? As a beginner in PC gaming, I have no prior knowledge of these topics.

If you something better then the stock cooler on it then yes its worth it. Any overclock is going to result in some sort of increase in performance depending on how far you push it. easiest way to overclock is to change the multiplier a lil at a time, run test, see if its stable an go from there.

The gains will be small in terms of gaming, not really worthwhile.
