I have a [delidded] 4770K running at 4.4 GHz with an overclock of 4.4 GHz. To hit this speed I need at least 1.3v, but my CPU only boots at 4.5 GHz and then crashes under load. My NH-D15 cooler is powerful, yet setting it to 1.4 would cause overheating. My motherboard is a Z87 G45 Gaming board. Would upgrading to a better Z97 motherboard help? If so, which ones are recommended under $200?

think about it this way: even with more money, would an extra 100-200mhz really make a difference? Haswell hasn't really pushed his limits much before. I'm lucky because my 4770k only reached around 4.2ghz at 1.3v. as blackbird mentioned, it's hard to say if your performance is limited by the board or the CPU. Probably the CPU is the bigger bottleneck. Don't waste your time or resources on this. It's not worth it.

No assurance could be provided that a better OC would result from using a higher-quality board.

Alright fellas. Thanks for your answers.
At least I know what to spend my money on now instead of a newer motherboard lol. Getting myself a better gaming chair now
