It could work. I ran an old Pentium 1c/2t with 3GB RAM and a 256MB GPU in 2006 using Windows 7, and it performed well, even better than on XP. Windows 8.1 seems to handle some tasks better than 7, so I think Windows 10 will be even more efficient. If it isn't tied to Windows software, switching to Linux might give you more speed.
