I was looking into this as well, and it seems to be a 5-10% fps uptick. For me, that's not worth it yet. I'm plenty happy with my 8700K and 1080Ti. Your call.
It wouldn't be worthwhile; a noticeable boost would likely only appear at 1440p, if any at all.
They're quite similar, and swapping to a 9900K would likely not make a big difference. Plus, the 8700K offers solid performance for most tasks.
I changed from i7-8700K to i7-8700K a short while after its release. It was beneficial for 1440p gaming.
Uncertain about waiting that long. Keeping at 1080/60 until reaching 4K144... I’d switch to 1440p sooner.
Yes, but refreshing every couple to two and a half years seems unnecessary. The 6700K came out at the end of 2015, the 8700K in late 2017, and now you're thinking about jumping to a 10700K around mid-2020. Those are premium models that cost a fortune, making it seem like a waste to change them every two years... I save significantly by upgrading every four to five years. Also, I'm pleased that today's performance per dollar is better than ever. My overclocked 1660 can handle new games at 1440p Ultra without any issues.
