I purchased a used PC for my wife—a secondhand Inspiron 5675 with some added components—and it experiences occasional crashes. Every week or so, it will crash and restart, then fail again a few times before functioning normally for another week or two. I’ve been monitoring the Event Viewer to identify the cause. Previously, the issue was traced to the CPU ("A fatal hardware error has occurred. Reported by component: Processor core," more info in my previous post). However, last night it had its typical three crashes, and the Event Viewer showed the system rebooted without a clean shutdown (Event ID 41). The BugcheckCode and PowerButtonTimestamp values were all zero, suggesting an abrupt shutdown possibly due to a failing power supply.
Before this incident, I thought the CPU was faulty, but now I’m uncertain. It seems unlikely both the PSU and CPU are malfunctioning simultaneously. Could it be that the PSU is the only problem, and the earlier crashes were actually caused by the power supply not delivering sufficient power to the CPU?

Absolutely, given the low-quality power supply you currently have, it’s quite inadequate. I recommend upgrading to a higher-quality PSU, such as Seasonic Focus/PRIME or Corsair RMx/RMi/HX/HXi/AX/AXi models. Your EVGA B-series falls into Tier D, whereas the ones I’m using and suggest are from Tier A. Keep in mind that even though a new PSU might help, it won’t instantly resolve problems caused by the old one over time. Damage accumulates, so only replacing components can truly fix the situation. Still, starting with a reliable, high-quality PSU is essential—after all, it’s the most critical part of your system because it supplies power to everything.
