Hi, I'm checking if my EVGA 500w PSU is enough to power both the GPU and CPU at overclocked speeds. I'm planning to use the FX-6300 at 4 or 4.5ghz and have good cooling. My setup includes a GTX 960, MSI 970 Gaming, one SSD, one HDD, and an optical drive.

If you want to overclock, yes, you will want a better quality power supply.
As with any overclocking, you stand a chance to fry your whole system. That chance increases drastically when you factor in a low-quality power supply.
You can try to overclock, but it is not advised with that PSU.

I wouldn't recommend boosting the speed of that power supply. A curious discussion on a forum from 2014 about this PSU

Step 1: If your PSU has the word 'bronze', you clearly have no choice but to throw it away. Give it to me instead.
Step 2: Purchase a PSU with the word 'gold'.
