We refer to English US in Canada... just as keyboard layouts and program settings are configured accordingly, everything is labeled English US.

I know it's English US, so I'm writing in that style. I was curious about why Windows prompts me to adjust the speech settings—there don't seem to be other options, which makes it hard to use Cortana.

Sure, I understand you'd like it adjusted for an English US context.

Launch the settings app, navigate to time and language if it isn't already at "English (Canada)". In the options for English Canada, enable the speech pack or similar feature under Language settings. @simkokes Keep following your topics to receive notifications.

Thank Nexxus, I'm fetching those packs right now. I'll update this note later and let you know if it functions properly.

You likely need to use Canada English as your primary setting. While trying to figure this out, I removed all content except for that reason, which caused the download prompt to disappear due to firewall issues.

It seems the Canadian language and speech packs didn’t satisfy Cortana. The US option remains the sole choice for me. **It looks like a restart might be necessary to complete the setup.**

It seems the update function is active now without needing any deletions. Oddly enough, my laptop ran smoothly without a restart, while my desktop required one.
