Corsair rm750 experiences a buzzing sound once the computer restarts after being powered down for more than an hour.
I recently replaced my PC and installed a new case. Because my PSU has been running since 2013, I upgraded it to a newer model while doing so—choosing the RM750. When I power it up, it starts making a buzzing sound similar to a case or CPU fan for about two minutes before stopping. The noise is still present but much quieter (you might barely notice it if you're close). Under heavy loads it can stress the system, but idle it all day and nothing happens. Restarting doesn’t fix it. However, after about an hour of being off, it resumes when Windows loads again.
System specs: Ryzen 7 5800X (PBO & curve optimizer), RTX 3060 Ti (with +150 cores and +1100 memory), Noctua NH-L9A 4X, Corsair fan for exhaust, MSI B450 Tomahawk Max.
This problem existed before the overclocking too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
It sounds similar to coil whine. I’d consider swapping it out, as I’ve had the Rm750 for nearly two years without any issues. A replacement should definitely be quiet. The comment about a buzzing suggests it might be a fan-related problem, but either way, exchanging for another unit would fix it.
Felt worried about what might happen. I had already thrown away the box, so I’ll get a replacement tomorrow. Appreciate the update.
You probably don’t need the box. I’ve sent multiple Seagate hard drives without the original wrapping, as long as the serial number remained on the product label. With Seagate they don’t mind, and if anyone cared about packaging, a disk maker would definitely prioritize it given how delicate these drives are.
