Corsair H100i Elite AIO performance... or not? i5-13600kf at 100° in Cinebench.
Hey there! So I just set up my new setup. It includes an i5-13600kf (125W TDP, 6P cores, 8E cores, 20 threads) from MSI Z690 Pro A RTX 3080, paired with MSI Ventus 3x Team Group DDR5 RAM at XMP1 speed. The case uses 500DX base, pure, and it’s running at 6400 MHz. I’m still testing it quietly. Building was smooth until I started Cinebench. In idle temps were around 34°C, which is 9°C higher than the room temperature. When I begin Cinebench multicore, temps jump right to 88°C and within half a minute hit 100°C. That’s unusual… or is it normal for Raptor Lake CPUs when all cores are on? After turning off Cinebench, the temps drop back to 39°C instantly. The ICUE detects the AIO and everything seems fine—fan speeds adjust, no pump or water sounds.
I made a few guesses that might help:
1. The pre-applied thermal paste might be bad or needs changing.
2. The Intel LGA 1700 standoff screws might be misaligned (not upside down).
3. The wiring could be off—there were only two 4-pin fans, plus a Y-cable and a UCB end. I checked the fan header and everything looked tight.
4. The manual I found didn’t match my model (it said 24-pin connector, but I have a 4-pin). I think I attached some images for reference.
Maybe you can confirm which one is right or suggest a fix? Thanks!
Fans and pump connectors are placed in the CPU header, while AIO fans should appear in the CPU header and AIO pumps in the CPU opt settings.
Check your BIOS settings for multi-core optimization. Your board currently has the feature disabled, along with a modified voltage/boost configuration. It's running at 4.5GHz on performance cores and 3.9 on efficiency cores, achieving highs in the 70s under load with a cool ambient temperature. I can improve cooling, but you're running the pump at low speed to reduce noise and the fan operates best around 700 RPM at 80°C.
My AIO has a different header setup, using a JUSB connector inside the case for USB connection. It also features a damaged 3PIN connector with only one pin connected, which I placed on the CPU header. The pump is powered via a USB-C jack and has power over SATA connections. Fans are linked to this unusual Y-Cable. During my two-minute test, the water temperature rose from 31°C to 35°C. At Flibberdipper I disabled Turbo Enhance and it didn’t change the results. The pump runs at 13600kf with all cores at 4.6GHz or higher, reaching up to 100°C instantly and maintaining around 88°C. The coolant temperature also increased from 31°C to 35°C.
I noticed my bios isn't showing the pump as working—it displays 0 rpm. Do pumps actually shut off? I also saw it lists pump RPM as CPU RPM (2500rpm). Maybe changing the single-pin connector to the pump header at CasoF13 would help. I plan to buy thermal paste tomorrow to test it. Since the bios can't tell what's happening right now, switching from the CPU header to the pump header seems like a good idea.
I also need to go to sleep, but I hope it helps. Additionally, you might want to check the bios for any suggestions if the aio pump is being treated like a fan—sometimes this can cause fans to slow down or even stop, which could be risky if the pump is the issue rather than the fans.
