Hello everyone, I’m looking for assistance with my corrupted BIOS. My laptop would frequently shut down at around 60 degrees Celsius, which seemed like a software issue. Despite cleaning it thoroughly and replacing the thermal paste, the problem persisted after a fresh Windows install and manufacturer drivers. I considered downgrading the BIOS to an older version, but unfortunately, that damaged my machine completely. I’m seeking advice from anyone familiar with BIOS issues. Local repair shops in rural Portugal aren’t qualified enough, and they usually recommend replacing the motherboard for about 200 euros. I’m confident I can fix it myself, though it won’t fully solve the problem. The BIOS was flashed, the laptop restarted automatically, installed the new BIOS fully, then restarted again—still nothing. Now the machine powers on, the fan speeds up but nothing else happens; it just shows a black screen. I’ve tried reseating RAM, removing the CMOS battery, using the laptop battery, leaving it outside for a while, and even placing the BIOS files on a USB while pressing FN+ESC. I plan to share this on tech forums to increase my chances of resolving it. Here are my device details and BIOS links: Acer Aspire 5 - A515-51G-56UG CPU (i5-8250u), 8GB DDR4 SSD, 256GB M.2 GPU, GeForce Mx130, motherboard C5V01 LA-E892P. Acer drivers/BIOS support available at the provided URLs. Before downgrading, I used BIOS 2.02 and now 1.09.

From what I understand, you're in a tough spot. You can't reduce the BIOS without damaging the device. The best option would be to find the BIOS chip on the circuit board, remove it, replace it with a new one, and test the result.

The software handles this task effectively. By linking it to the bios chip, you can directly read from or write to it via a usb dongle, using the included software.

I've been trying for a few hours and noticed some folks using Acer laptops to resolve issues without hardware changes—like the USB BIOS tweak. Still, I'm not sure how it all fits together. Maybe things are more complicated than I thought.

You're looking for a laptop delivery within two months. Since you're in Europe, check local retailers or online sellers that offer fast shipping options. Make sure to compare prices and shipping times to find a reliable option for your school project.

I've come across discussions about this topic, but the only video I saw was that one: in it he appears to have the same problem, just using an older laptop. Thanks for understanding—I was hoping to avoid soldering since I have limited experience with it.

Based on what I shared, you shouldn't solder it directly on your machine. For connecting to the BIOS chip, use the clamp instead.

It's unclear whether the consumer series Aspire are compatible with this feature since Travelmate is only available in business editions. For example, Lenovo Thinkpad is for enterprise use while Ideapad targets consumers.
