Hey everyone, welcome to the forum! This is my debut post, and I’m definitely not the last one here. I’m facing a pretty serious issue. In short, I’ve been creating a time-lapse video using a CCTV camera over roughly three months. All the exported clips from my VMS come out as MKV files, which I then convert to MP4. While assembling everything, the very first clip turned out corrupt and is quite large—about 16GB. It works fine when playing it in VLC, but when I try to scrub through certain sections, the file becomes corrupted again, while other parts and most of the video run smoothly.

I’ve attempted to import and re-export using Premiere Pro, Vegas, and even VLC with conversion tools, but both programs just freeze or crash eventually. I’ve also tried re-converting the footage, though these conversions only manage to process the first minute of the video before it shows as incomplete.

Another problem is that I can’t copy the file from the drive. I can’t move it off the storage and can’t create a duplicate on the same drive either. The file just won’t budge and throws an error code when I try to copy it again (I’ll share the exact code once power is restored).

Any suggestions on how to recover or fix this file would be greatly appreciated!

Play the file using VLC in fullscreen mode and capture a screen recording with GeForce Now or Obs.

This might simply be a damaged SD card.
Do you still have the original photos?
