Hey guys,
I set up a computer with these components:
- Core i5 9400f at 2.9 Ghz
- Asus Rog Strix RTX 2070 Super
- Msi Z390 Gaming Edge AC
- Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 16 GB with 3200 mhz
- Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB black
- My monitor: ASUS VG278Q Gaming Monitor - 27 inch, Full HD, 1ms, 144Hz, G-SYNC compatible, Adaptive-Sync
I’ve been playing Fortnite and sometimes Euro Truck Simulator 2, and my FPS drops significantly—from 140 or more to 60, 80, or even 70 FPS. I’m wondering if the CPU is limiting performance and if upgrading to an i7 9700K might help.

For a more affordable improvement, a pre-owned i7 8700k could be beneficial, but keep an eye on your CPU activity during games to confirm it’s the real issue.

From the on-screen display of afterburner, view your CPU and GPU utilization. If you don’t have afterburner installed, you can obtain it from MSI. Additionally, verify that no unnecessary programs are running in the background.

Question it might be a bottleneck. Look at the temperatures while playing. If they're too high, adjust the custom curve.

The temperatures stay within acceptable ranges, around 45 °C for the CPU and 65 °C for the GPU. I made a change in the BIOS setting where the CPU ratio applies mode was set from all cores to turbo ratio with EIST and Intel Turbo Boost turned on, XMP disabled, and my RAM increased to 3200 MHz. Additionally, my power supply is a Seasonic Focus GX-750W with 80 Plus Gold certification.
