Hi,
I spent the past eight hours fine-tuning my overclock on a 6600k and noticed something unusual. I’m relatively new to the overlooking community, as my previous processor wasn’t a K. After running the AIDA64 stability test for about two hours without any problems or throttling, the software confirmed it was stable. Then I opened CPU-Z to investigate further and saw the core speeds fluctuating between 3.1Ghz and 4.8Ghz. I have no clue what might be causing this. I’m sure the temperature isn’t the issue—the processor never reached 55°C after two hours of stress, and I checked it every 15 minutes. Do you think anyone else has encountered something similar?

Current Specs:
Core I5 6600k @ 4.8Ghz with 1.320v
MSI z170-a pro
Corsair H100i v2 for cooling

Thank you very much for your time.

check if performance changes during stress tests. adjust power settings in windows to high performance to maintain maximum output. are adaptive voltage and speedstep features enabled? does the system ever fall below 3.1?

It seems the system is changing its behavior during stress testing. Try setting the power performance to high in Windows; this should maintain maximum clock speeds. Are you using adaptive voltage control and speedstep? Does it ever fall below 3.1 GHz?

Thank you for your response!
I just checked and the fluctuations occur only under heavy load (95-100%). The power level is already set to high performance. I shouldn’t be using adaptive voltage since I chose manual, and I’m not sure what speedstep means—I’m new to these settings but spent some time researching before trying. I confirmed it does drop below 3.1 GHz at times.

Additionally, my motherboard limits me to 1.355V. If I push beyond that, the readings turn red and the device won’t power on.
