Hello! Comparing the Ryzen 5 5600X and the 7 5800X depends on your needs. The 7 5800X offers more cores and threads, while the 5600X has a slightly higher base clock speed. Both are priced similarly right now. Which suits you better will depend on your workload and performance requirements.

The 5800x seems quicker in both single and multi-threaded modes. As it was back 30 years ago, clock speed doesn’t determine the processor’s capabilities.

What? The 5800X offers more cores and a quicker clock speed. Why do you see it with fewer in this model? Typically, you don’t pick CPU based solely on clock speed—core count and platform type usually play a bigger role, along with whether it’s a low-end, mid-range, or high-end chip.

The 5700X3D compares favorably to the 5600X and 5800X in your area. These DCS flight sims really appreciate the additional L3 cache found on X3D processors. Regarding your hardware, do you already have an AM4 motherboard or is this a brand-new setup?

5800x works with cooling if you have it. However, both options feel like poor deals in 2025, particularly for a brand-new build. 5700x3D is a better choice if you're getting an AM4 model.

Both the 5 5600x and the 7 5800x cost around $140, while the 5700x3d is about $260. I thought the 5700x3d was too much compared to pairing it with a 6700xt. Since I already have an AM4 cooler, I’m not keen on spending extra for an AM5 or AIO. I’m sticking with the Ryzen stock cooler and think the 5600x is enough. The confusion about clock speeds came from comparing base and boost clocks, but I’m not sure if that’s what people are discussing—maybe it’s more about game compatibility?

The additional cores would certainly make a big difference for certain games.

These Ryzen 5000 series CPUs become more relevant in 2025 for two main reasons: first, if you already own an older AM4 setup with a Ryzen 1000/2000/3000 model, upgrading can provide a performance boost without a full replacement; second, if you're starting fresh on a tight budget, an AM4 configuration makes sense. For gaming, the 5600, 5600X, and 5800X offer similar performance levels. The 5700X3D will provide noticeable gains in CPU-intensive tasks. If you prefer the 5600 without the X series variants, it's a better choice than the 5600X or 5800X. Pairing these with a 6700 XT would be ideal.

The suggestions likely assume affordable options for a Ryzen 5 5600(X), AM4 board, and DDR4 RAM. Upgrading an existing AM4 setup with a Ryzen 5 1600 or 3 3100 might be better, especially if the price matches that of a 5800X. Otherwise, it could be a questionable purchase.

Search Amazon for an AM4 upgrade from 5 3600x and GTX 1660 Super. The 5800X is still on sale and unlikely to be impacted by tariffs. Consider if a stock AMD cooler fits or if you need a tower cooler or a budget AIO.
