It appears to be a Core 2 Quad Q9650 with an unlocked multiplier, not a separate Core 2 Extreme QX9650. The multiplier would help only when you were pushing beyond stock performance.

It might help to slow down the processor a bit. I’m not sure why the Q9650 seems to run at 95W instead of the advertised 130W, but there could be differences between the models.

It might also be a more expensive chip version. Previous Extreme core 2 duo/quad models weren't worth the added cost.

Additionally, an unlocked multiplier would certainly aid in OC, though it would mainly assist with minor adjustments.

This CPU is really impressive. It should handle around 4500 operations smoothly. A cooler would make a big difference. Once you're finished, just let me know through the PM.

I don't own the Core 2 Quad or Extreme, but I do have its sibling, the Q9550. It performs quite well with Linux.

Noise. My X3360 runs around 4100, but I ran out of FSB on my X48 board. I’d prefer 500FSB; the board handles 600FSB nonstop with a Wolfdale.
