Hello! Your new Ryzen 7 5700X3d should be here tomorrow to swap out the old 5700G. The stock cooler from the 5700G (AMD Wraith Stealth) should handle a couple of gaming days, but keep in mind it might not be ideal for extended use. The Noctua NH-D14 is a solid choice, though you’ll need to wait a bit longer for the AM4 brackets. It’s okay to wait on the cooler if you’re patient, but consider the performance impact of running it without the optimal cooling. Any tips would be appreciated!

Avoid installing the built-in cooler if your CPU isn't included. For light workloads it's fine, but gaming will cause it to heat up quickly and reduce performance.

I’d just sit back and hope it works as expected, even though the stock cooler seems okay for regular use and light gaming. No need to mount the wraith just to take it off again, clean up the paste, apply a fresh one, and then reattach the NH-D14. I wouldn’t push it too far. Under normal gaming conditions, it should probably be fine. It’ll be warm but not reaching 95°C right away.

It could potentially work, but I recommend keeping an eye on the temperatures and possibly capping the FPS at around 60. This helps prevent the CPU from overheating while the GPU handles high frame rates. Some older or less demanding titles might manage 120 or unlocked FPS, though 5700x3D offers similar performance to 5700G.

It's not the most pleasant process, particularly without IPA.

I keep a few Noctua cleaning wipes around. They’re really useful. A single wipe works for both the CPU and the cooler.

Yes! It's a tailored detergent blend from Noctua. The scent is quite strong and IPA-like. They're really useful.

That's a good question. Checking if the methylated spirit is safe to remove from the old paste depends on the specific product and how it's stored. Always follow the manufacturer's guidelines for cleaning residues.

It should be fine. It isn't perfect, but it won't leave any residue. At least it's better than nothing!
