I’m considering switching to a new CPU and thinking about upgrading to something like the 14700K or 14900K. I already have a 240mm H100i cooler from Corsair, but I’m unsure if it will handle both CPUs efficiently. Some sources suggest a larger 360mm cooler might be better for this chipset. I want to know if I’ll face any cooling issues with the current setup.

The purpose is to understand the current scenario, share relevant examples, and clarify your background. Are you experiencing any CPU-related concerns or issues?

The scenario involves gaming, specifically from Corsair, with a system costing around 12.6k. I’m unsure about the exact model but know the issue might be related to the CPU. I’ve heard Intel can fix such problems through updates, and it seems these issues were present in older versions too. Newer CPUs of this line should not have the same problem.

You can adjust the voltage slightly and fine-tune as needed (core ratios). You can observe the results before deciding. Consider using a contact frame and PTM7950, update your BIOS and firmware. Edited September 2, 2025 by leclod

For gaming with a 240mm cooler, the 14900K A 14700K should work fine in games and will slow down under heavy loads.

You're focused on gaming and not chasing the smallest fps gains for an edge. Your current setup of a 13600K paired with a 4090 works well. If you upgrade to a 14900K, expect cooling challenges—especially with a 240A AIO. It might function as intended, but sustained single-core and all-core boosts won't last long before thermal limits take over, forcing a return to stock specs for temperature control. My 13600K with a 5.4P + 4.4E all-core overclock and 1.2v undervolt typically needs a 360 to maintain stable performance.

The differences between a 14600k and 14900k are minimal, especially with a 14700k. As long as the air intake is clear, you can add a contact frame and possibly use ptm7950; the 14700k works fine. You might also undervolt them since these chips come out of the box quite hard. Unless the 12600k is having trouble, it’s not worth upgrading. We’re looking at a maximum single-core boost of about 15%, which isn’t much considering the price.

I'm spending a lot of time in World of Warcraft, especially focusing on CPU performance. I used a 5090 for a month, while a friend with a 5080 and 14700k reported about a 50% boost in FPS compared to me. That's why I'm thinking about upgrading. Also, looking at gaming benchmarks between 14600k and 14700k shows around a 10% improvement, and for WoW it could be even higher. That's why I'm leaning toward the 14700k and wondering if a 14600k would still work with the 240mm cooling solution.

It's odd since the two chips seem almost identical. There are definitely other things influencing this. The main performance boost comes from AMD's x3D chips, so if that's your focus, consider saving for those instead.

I experienced 25% GPU utilization on Wow with 5090. As it's more of a CPU-intensive title, it required more power from the CPU, which allowed other games relying heavily on GPU to run smoothly.
