I’m preparing a new setup with an AMD A10-7870k APU on an Asus A88x Pro MB, using 16Gb of Adata 2133 RAM, aiming for maximum overclocking. I’m wondering if a CM Hyper 212 cooler would suffice or if a water cooling solution like the Nepton 140XL is better. My initial thought was the 212, but it helped prevent overheating for a few days, though it still overheated occasionally. I have experience with an AMD FX6300 cooler, which managed to keep things stable for three to four days before overheating again. I’m unfamiliar with water cooling systems and also curious about any reliability concerns with closed-loop setups like the 140XL. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

These sealed loop coolers usually don’t leak as much as they used to, but if you’re worried, sticking with air cooling might be a wiser choice. Also, the Nepton 140XL won’t significantly improve cooling compared to cheaper air coolers.

water is essential for serious overclocking... no need to say more
