Converting from MBR to GPT is beneficial for SAM.
I somehow got Windows installed via an MBR partition, which restricts me to Legacy BIOS settings. This means my motherboard won’t allow enabling SAM. I own both 3900XT and 6800XT models, and I want to turn them on because a game could use SAM better. Should I convert to GPT to unlock SAM, reinstall now, or wait until I get a 5600X, a new NVMe SSD, and do a fresh install with GPT? The upgrade will likely come later, as it will align with moving my current CPU into a new system.
May I ask why? It's not something you should even notice in everyday operation. That's what I'd do. There's always the risk conversion goes sideways and you'd have to reinstall anyway (and hoping you have functional backups)
My games are all safely stored on Steam or can be saved manually. My render files remain on my old machine, and I keep them there until the project is done. I still do the transcode locally after finishing, even though the time difference is significant—roughly 2-3 hours on my 3900XT and 8-10 hours on my Xeon E3 1280V3. The 3900XT can handle up to 90°C continuously, while my Xeon stays at a steady 60°C. I plan to upgrade to long-term storage drives and run another backup before trying it again.
It might be beneficial using an AMD GPU, but not with Nvidia. The latest performance update was released recently.
