Converting a pre-built setup to an MC server and relocating the GPU to your personal machine
I don't know if this is the right place for this kind of post, but anyway. Because I cant get a gpu blah blah blah we have all heard it before, I was planning on buying a pre build with a 2060 in it. Other specs: Athlon 3000G 1x4gb corsair 2400mhz ram Asus prime A320 So I was going to take the GPU and put it in my own system and turn the rest into a mc server for 2-5 people. the price of the pre built is 570 pounds (794 USD) or thereabouts and I just want to ask, Should I do it?
I’d prefer more RAM, though it varies by server type. It’s possible to run the server on your gaming PC if it’s sufficient.
I run CPU mining alongside the MC server, and so far everything has worked fine—I lowered the mining priority in the task manager. Of course, with the right equipment you can experiment freely.
Ensure you have an additional 4GB of RAM for optimal performance with Windows on your Minecraft server. For a basic Linux distribution using only a terminal, 4GB should suffice.
Running it elsewhere would also work better since I could use it around the clock if it was blocked in another area or near the router.
I can visit a nearby store to buy another 4gb stick at a low price.
Yes, particularly with an Athlon. A dual-channel setup would assist with more players.
