By default, at least for me it uses .odp. You should switch to a format supported by Microsoft Office, such as .ppt or .pptx.

They should be, though occasionally formatting features only available to pp exist and free tools can't display them. Generally it's okay (source: I use libre and pp on my laptop and desktop).
