Hello, I'm setting up a gaming setup and have a few questions. I purchased Windows 7 Home Premium with both a 64-bit and a 32-bit disk. The 64-bit version is installed in a bootcamp partition on my iMac. Can I use the 32-bit disk on my new PC? Does the product key only apply to one of the two disks? Once activated, is the 32-bit disk no longer useful? Also, if I install it on my new machine and activate it, could I upgrade to Windows 10 while keeping the 64-bit version? Thanks for your assistance.

Windows is available in both 32 and 64-bit forms, yet only one installation key exists. This means the key is crucial—don’t confuse the disks; having just one key limits you to install either the 32 or 64 version, not both.

You can contact M$ and request the key renewal by mentioning you’re switching to a new system.

Cant use the same key regardless of versions. Just get a new key possibly from vendors like G2A that offer way more reasonable prices under the risk of unlikely yet possibly getting your key revoked

Wait, are you saying that it may be possible to get my key renewed? So in theory I could remove my win 7 partition from my iMac and put it on my new PC? Is it so? There is no way that could be free

On the Mac version, use Windows CMD (admin privileges) to remove the key from the Mac. Run slmgr -upk, connect to Microsoft, and follow the prompts to activate Windows. You may be able to install it directly with the key without further steps. Uncertain if I've done this before since I still have 500 keys for Windows 7 and 10. Contact details: (888) 571-2048, TTY (800) 718-1599.

Removing the 64-bit version from your Mac allows you to reinstall it. Adding a 32-bit version isn't useful.
