Controller fails to recognize SAS drives.
Hey there, I recently got an old Dell T210 server that needed a new motherboard, so I salvaged the SAS controller, drives, and memory. I’ve been running it alongside other components to handle NAS, Plex, Home Assistant, and general server tasks—it’s been quite useful. Now I’m running low on storage space, and a local business is offering used 3TB SAS drives at a discount. I thought I’d grab a couple and test them, even if they fail within six months, to gain some experience. I connected them but the controller didn’t recognize them. I can still hear and feel them spinning, and the heads are doing some initial searches, suggesting they might still be alive. The seller confirmed they’ve been powered on and tested. I’ve looked into it and found that some drives have a setting to prevent power-up if 3V is applied, so I removed the orange cable and only provided 12V and 5V. Still no response from the controller. My current setup uses a Dell PARC H200 with Seagate Constellation ES.3 3TB drives. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
