Hi everyone! I understand this might be a bit tricky, but I’m running out of options. If you know a better forum or place to share this, let me know. I own a Gigabyte B550 Vision D that supposedly includes the Titan Ridge Thunderbolt adapter. My goal is to connect it via an active USB-C → HDMI2.1 cable and stream 4K at 120Hz. Currently, I’m limited to 4K at 60Hz. I think it should be possible: I have a 1080Ti display (with updated firmware) that can handle 4K@120 over DisplayPort. It’s similar in bandwidth to 4K@100, so the GPU should be capable. The TB controller cable should support 4K@120, and the manual mentions a 5K limit at 60Hz. Based on what I found online, it seems plausible that 4K@120 is doable. Even though DSC or color space compression could cause issues, the bandwidth should still cover it. The cable’s specs say 4 lanes, which would match the requirement. The Nvidia control panel shows two lanes at HBR3, suggesting signal quality isn’t a major concern. It also explains why higher refresh rates aren’t working—two lanes aren’t enough for smooth 120Hz. I’m not sure how to confirm this on Windows, but I suspect there’s a setting that controls lane allocation. I can’t seem to find any documentation confirming dual lanes per port. With two USB-C ports, it’s possible they just reserved two lanes each, assuming no one will notice. That would mean 5K@60 could work via a dual DP connection, though that’s not standard. Still, the 4K@120 target seems achievable in theory. One thing that bothers me is the “Security Options” in BIOS—there’s an option for DisplayPort only. I tried enabling it, but it completely disables USB/TB functionality on those ports. It might be a workaround to reserve lanes, but it doesn’t help with HDMI2. Overall, I’m leaning toward it being limited by the adapter or cable rather than the board itself. What do you think?
