Hello everyone, just finished assembling my first PC with these specifications: MSI B550 Tomahawk Ryzen 5800X, BeQuiet pure Rock, 2 GB Vision RTX 3070, Kingston KC2500 SSD, Corsair Vengeance Pro 2x8GB RAM at 3200MHz, Cooler Master Masterbox Lite case with stock fans. Initially, I had some trouble flashing the BIOS and getting the CPU to run properly, but everything is now resolved. My main concern is the high CPU temperatures—idle temps range from 38-42°C with spikes reaching 45°C. When launching Epic Games Launcher it jumps to 55-60°C. During gameplay (Fortnite, Cyberpunk) it hits around 80°C and stays there, which is concerning. After two minutes I stopped because I didn’t want potential damage. I tried enabling eco mode to lower these temps, but it didn’t help much. It seems the cooler might be the issue, or maybe these temperatures are normal for this CPU model. I’ve heard the 5000 series tends to run hotter than others. Are these readings acceptable? Thanks!
80C under cyberpunk works well since it demands a lot from the CPU. 90C under CB20 is a bit excessive—verify the cooler installation with proper thermal paste and pressure. The case appears to restrict airflow; with only one fan (the rear exhaust), expect minimal ventilation, which likely causes the elevated temperatures. Try removing the side panel to test. If temperatures fall by 5-10 degrees, the high heat comes from the case itself and insufficient additional fans, not the CPU cooler.
High 30s to low 40s is typical idle time, 90°C feels a bit excessive for R20.
Ryzen CPUs require a significant voltage. Consider reducing it slightly. If you're uncomfortable working with BIOS, use Ryzen Master instead. My 3600 would hit up to 86°C during Cinebench r23; lowering the voltage to 1.17V brought it down to 74°C. Also, applying an offset or setting a fixed voltage can help eliminate those temperature spikes. In regular stock models, this issue often appears. If you open something and the CPU runs at its default settings, those spikes tend to occur.
