I've been experiencing frequent freezes on Windows 10 lately (early this year) even though I've made several changes—new power supply, GPU switch, memory tests, reinstall, new SSDs or swaps, temperature checks, memory swapping, etc. Now I'm down to just the motherboard and CPU, so I'm considering an upgrade.
What's the point of upgrading? Will DDR5 really improve performance compared to DDR4 3200? I'm worried about spending around $1,000 on a system upgrade, especially if I end up replacing the motherboard or CPU.

Do you have any OCs or undervolts for your GPU? It crashes even when everything is at stock settings. It's possible you might just have a faulty card and need to return it. This can happen with any item. You may want to think about this first, even if you decide to change it later. If the product is defective, get a replacement. Later you can sell it if you don't use it anymore.

Not to risk taking over, but you might save your memory and consider getting an Intel LGA 1700 DDR4 board with a CPU. For instance, you could find an i9 12900 for under $300 on eBay. You might even be able to sell your old components and share the problems you’ve faced. Others could buy them at a reduced cost. Alternatively, you could opt for a brand new 14th generation CPU, such as an i7 14700k. I think they’ve likely resolved those issues already.

I’m currently using an i7 14700 with a B760 DDR4 board, 32GB of DDR4 3200, and a 9070xt. This setup is great for 1440p gaming.

Not a bad choice. It seems I can get it for under $500. However, I saw a MicroCenter offer around $650 with the latest generation and 32 GB DDR5 6K, so maybe I’ll go with that. Thanks for your reply. I also made a separate thread just in case.

Also I didn’t realize this until recently, but AMD actually has a cleanup tool as well. It might be useful to run that. However, it could also save time during the operations by backing up data and reformatting the OS drive for a clean install with the 9070xt, ensuring no leftover Nvidia remnants. But especially if you’ve done that, reach out to the vendor for warranty support since the operation exceeds power needs.

I could anticipate problems with a particular game, but you shouldn’t face constant issues and might need a card replacement. I once had an RX 6600 like that. I replaced it with another model and never encountered any more problems.

In the event viewer, you can examine and identify the cause of the crash. From there, you can pinpoint the necessary fix.
