I prefer the game to keep those rough graphics. It doesn’t have the usual ones with extra details and smooth edges—just a bit of masking. I really enjoyed this game; it was my first MMO and made a big impact on me. Then they banned me for leaving the auto-click feature I created, which helped me gather thousands of items. I’m frustrated but also a little sad since I can’t play it anymore. Meme: my dream is that one day they’ll release a real 3D Runescape using its own engine—same game, same content, just a bit more visual flair. If I have enough free time later, I might make it myself.
Based on your interests, it could be worthwhile or not depending on what you value. During that period around 2002/2003 to mid-2011, the game stayed connected to its origins but gradually moved away from them. For those nostalgic for the past, today's RuneScape still echoes its roots, though it feels increasingly distinct and no longer aligns with my preferences. Besides the subscription system, they've also rolled out a microtransaction model, which I don't support.
This game was a big part of my youth. I played it constantly during middle school and afternoons in high school. I stopped when I began college two years ago and have played it less often. It’s different now. I’m not sure if it’s because I played too much or it’s just outdated. Maybe both factors are at play.
