Hi wanted to ask for some clarification on this video
View: https://youtu.be/whZvsG9m-eE
Im looking at maybe swapping my 7900 XTX for a 9070 XT.
I'm not an OC expert, I've dabbled a bit with OCing on my 7900 XTX but changed it back to stock.
So my question is with these 3100mhz boost clock 9070 XTs instead of the 3060mhz, what are the actual pros and cons?
Basically, are the 3100mhz 340w cards faster out of the box ?
The 3060mhz lower wattage cards are not as fast ?
But will they all overclock the same or do the 3100mhz cards have an advantage ?

Reviews are still pending, making it difficult to judge, but from my perspective it doesn't seem worthwhile. Even if 9070 offers better performance in RT and is close to XTX in raster, you should remember that XTX provides significantly more RAM with higher bandwidth. It's unlikely you'll notice any substantial gains in games (if any).

Wait for the reviews to come in. Then consider whether what you currently have meets your needs. If not, think about alternatives—save the money and grab a coffee.

Unfortunately the moderators altered the title I don’t care about purchasing it or not
My focus is on the video I added to the thread and I wonder if the 3100mhz boost clock will actually improve overall overclocking or if the card will match the same performance as the 3060 boost cards.
I already know what I’m after from the card before making a decision, just curious which option is better??

In short, it depends. The 3060 mhz 9070 might run slower compared to ten 3100 mhz units. However, the actual performance will depend on the real clock values, which vary by model and unit. Cooling options for both GPU and the overall PC can also affect the maximum achievable speed.

If you let it sit, those 340w cards would definitely outperform the 304w ones. Given the typical air cooling used for such high-power chips, their sustained boost times rely mainly on how quickly they lose thermal capacity. The higher power model might reach higher speeds initially but could slow down sooner even with faster fans—you’ll need to check reviews or gameplay videos to confirm the numbers.

These components should offer performance similar to three CPU heatsinks for that wattage, despite their triple-slot design keeping them relatively slim. For example, the RX Vega 64 used liquid cooling at 345w while five years later the triple-slot RX 7900XT reached around 355w—though stable clocks around 390w were achieved on stock coolers. Still, they struggle to maintain 3GHz for extended periods before dropping significantly. Water cooling, on the other hand, can boost performance by about 20% more consistently.

Boost Clock functions mainly as an overclocking mechanism and is heavily influenced by environmental factors. In a tight case with limited airflow and in hot climates, I wouldn’t expect much sustained improvement beyond the base Game Clock for long.

Architecture is more important than 40MHz. Wait for the results, GN reviewing the 5070 seemed to be hinting that the 9070 cards are close to the 7900xt in raster. No clue was given about RT. Price, performance, power and what you personally want from a card will ultimately decide.
