what is the value of a 6950xt in the US right now (just for reference), and adding a few hundred more to the $450 would result in a solid GPU with much better performance?
Interesting, I once believed the GPU was already the top component in my setup and that increasing it further would be unnecessary. But gaming is tough, right? I suppose unless other parts are nearly ten years old, an upgrade is still worth considering.
In theory, I could invest more, but with a 1080p monitor, I don’t think I can afford to spend $600 or $700 just for marginal gains in future-proofing. I’m confident I should already be able to play most games at higher settings and hit over 60 fps, so the extra cost doesn’t seem justified.
Looking through the discussions here, it seems smarter to hold off. Maybe I’ll explore the benefits of 1440p gaming and upgrade my monitor to truly maximize the performance of my current system. The higher resolution would later make a GPU upgrade more sensible.
Almost every day of the week you’re getting better value when upgrading your GPU.
Not claiming there are no benefits with CPUs, but those will be minor.
I own a 6700xt and have used a PowerColor 6700xt spectral white hellhound—I really like it!
I think you’ll see bigger improvements with a GPU upgrade than with a better CPU.
