Considering an eBay EPYC board and CPU offer...
I need to set up some testing that runs a game using automation and takes screenshots while playing. I’m aiming for 3 VMs, each with 3 GPUs—2 at 480 and 1 at 480—running three instances of the game simultaneously. The game is a popular MMO with demanding 3D graphics at 1080p. I’m looking for a solid frame rate. Would a system with 24 cores and 48 threads on an EPYC work? I’m considering allocating each VM 8 cores and 64GB RAM, using either an RX480 or RX580 chipset. These eBay EPYCs seem like a solid option, but I’m unsure if the game would perform well in such a setup.
If you can assess whether the games you're interested in can run on it, you'll know what to expect. Regarding the hardware, based on the chip you mentioned, it would likely work, though it depends on the motherboard you choose. Be careful not to underestimate the importance of the board, as it will significantly impact performance. You may need to invest in a better one for this level of use. That's my perspective.
Review deal discussions on the ServetheHome forums, where such boards frequently appear and people share insights about virtualization and related topics in the threads. For instance: https://forums.servethehome.com/index.ph...n-2.37913/ The eBay seller lists several items with that board and a few others matched with different processors.
