Looking to enhance your old ThinkCentre M58 with more RAM, a new CPU, and a GPU. Can you confirm the best CPU and GPU options for smooth gaming experiences like CS:GO or League of Legends? Also, is the Intel Core2 Duo E8400 still suitable for these upgrades?

The most affordable Core 2 Quad option is the top choice. The Q6600 tends to be very budget-friendly, and its performance gap compared to the Q9550 isn't significant—often just about a quarter of the cost difference.

You reside in various locations and have flexible spending options. Based on your situation, you might achieve higher efficiency with a completely new setup, such as a refurbished 1060+i5 7400...

The q9500 is marginally more affordable, though the price difference isn't substantial. It includes the cache, but we should confirm if it supports the required socket.

I believe moving to a Ryzen configuration would be more cost-effective, though I’m not expecting to simply upgrade right now.

I checked online about motherboards and found some info on Core 2 Quad processors. With your current 1333 bus CPU, it looks like any compatible board should work. Just be careful not to overspend too much on outdated gear.

It makes sense if he lands a 1650 and a q6600, he'll be okay in esports competitions.

For a basic 2-core CPU setup, a GTX 1050 is the top choice. On my Q6600, the 1050 began showing reduced gains in performance during tests.
