Considerations for DDR4 RAM with Ryzen 9 setup.
I recently purchased a fully assembled PC with all components ready, and I’m seeking advice about the RAM upgrade. I have a Ryzen 9 5950X running on an Asus TUF Gaming X570 Plus. The built-in RAM is 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3200, offering latency ranges of 16-18-18-36ms. I have some extra budget and want to know if replacing it would be worthwhile. I’ve considered options like the Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB (2x16GB) at 3600MHz or the G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2x16GB) at 4000MHz, both with similar latency specs. Any suggestions or alternatives would be helpful.
Your assessment is accurate. Significant gains aren't expected from those kits, though a RAM upgrade would be worthwhile. It's best to keep with your existing setup.
I agree with Mel0nMan. My 5900X uses Crucial Ballistix DDR4-3200 memory — it's powerful, but it stays around 30-35°C when idle. A note: my board wasn’t overclocked by default, so it initially showed 2666 MHz until I enabled that setting. That’s something to consider. Upgrading to 3600 or 4000 would only give a modest 1-3% boost at most, which isn’t worth the price. It might be better to invest in a stronger GPU instead.
