I’m considering buying my own PC now that I’ve read about the new Zen 3 CPUs launching on November 2nd. The thought of getting a Zen 2 feels less appealing compared to the potential benefits of Zen 3. Decided what to do—wait or go with Zen 2? Updated October 9, 2020 by cudd

2nd gen is Ryzen 5 2600, Ryzen 7 2700, etc. Third gen is Ryzen 3000. confusing since the architecture names don't add up at all, but there's no "+" generation so...

Hey everyone, thanks for your message. I'm not very familiar with PC components or AMD, but I've updated the post already.

When discussing "3rd gen," you're referring to Zen3, which is Ryzen 5000. Have you reviewed the presentation, slides, and benchmarks? If you've seen them, do you like what you found and are ready to wait? If yes, hold on; if not, consider getting the current generation since the new benchmarks from AMD likely won't outperform theirs. No company misrepresents their products!

Zen 3 5000 series CPUs seem quite promising based on what’s been shared. If reviews highlight strong performance, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on. Meanwhile, AMD tends to lower prices when introducing new models, so a 3000 series chip could offer better value soon.

I don't understand why we're even discussing this. It seems you're not in a hurry to make a purchase, right? If you were, you'd have already ordered it. You've seen the Zen 3 demo, so hold off on the decision. It's as if some folks are overly excited about small parts, but you're looking at items costing $400-600. Just keep waiting if you want something that lasts.

When the 3700x was released, the 2700x became significantly cheaper, offering a great opportunity to cut costs.

The price drop was inevitable, since the 3700x dropped in the same price slot as the 2700x (330USD), which is not the case now. 5800x is significantly more expensive than 3700x and there is no reason to drop the old gen's price Hope I'm wrong though
