Hi, last Monday I received a flash drive from a coworker who had promised to examine some .stl files. After inserting it, File Explorer started acting strangely—slow loading and no visible content. The Task Manager showed 100% CPU usage ([email protected]), but the NVIDIA backend was using about 60% of the processor. Windows (10) reported a security alert suggesting potential risks. I enabled Windows Defender, ran a scan, and discovered these files might be linked to non-genuine Windows versions. Despite having a valid license, the issue persists. I’ve scanned daily this week and requested a full removal, but after rescan the same files remain. Should I try an antivirus with a time trial to eliminate threats, then back up my games to another drive and reinstall Windows 10?

You scanned your computers quickly, previously using a premium Kaspersky plan. Back then, I relied on their 30-day trial with a temporary email address...

It's odd that Windows Defender marks a tool meant for breaking Windows activation as a threat. Is it really a virus, or is Microsoft simply using its authority this way?

Why is there a program on your computer even if you have the real one? I might or might not have it too, but you'll never find out.

It has improved significantly. Previously it was problematic and consumed a lot of resources, but the latest updates are top-notch. I've been using it for years now with no problems. It performs very well.
