I noticed the piece about the rx5500 and how PCIe 3.0 affects its speed. If future GPUs adopt this technology, I might be limited to PCIe 3.0 on my B450 board. Would the B550 support PCIe 4.0?
It appears the issue stems from limited VRAM forcing frequent swapping via PCIe bandwidth. This behavior is unexpected given the performance gap between the 5700 XT and newer cards despite similar PCIe versions.
The information comes from several sources. The system has 4 GB of VRAM and supports a maximum of 8 PCIe lanes.
It’s not an x16 card. That’s a cool point. It shouldn’t matter even for PCIe 3.0 though it shouldn’t be able to saturate x8 PCIe 3.0. 2.0, but not 3.0 makes me think they might be planning something with future boards like removing x16 slots from them.
You won’t find much detailed insight here. Some individuals might know things, but agreements could prevent them from sharing. Rumors can spread after an announcement, but not before. It seems there’s no official word about b550. What you mentioned suggests b550 and the 5500xt might be better left out altogether.
