Currently I own an older Billion 8200N modem/router and am considering upgrading to handle more connected devices. Although WiFi6 routers exist, there aren’t many available and none seem to support WPA3 security. Is now a poor time to purchase a new router? I’d rather not end up with one that becomes outdated in a few months. For instance, if I bought an ASUS RT-AX88U (which supports 802.11AX), would the manufacturer release updates to add WPA3?
Hi there! It's a tricky moment to purchase a new router. If you're patient, consider upgrading to Wi-Fi 6. Otherwise, stick with 802.11ac or Wi-Fi 5.
Thanks! I’ll look for a budget-friendly Wi-Fi 5 router to have on hand until better options become available.
The update to WPA3 on your Synology RT2600AC is likely manageable. The main issue is ensuring your connected devices can handle this new security protocol.
